The "L-shape" is more of a V-shape, which hurt quite a bit putting it in. Actually, it never got in, because it hurt too much. I was hoping for a slightly smaller ball as well, as I have one of this size in the screw variety. Needless to say, I continue to use my screw-variety stainless steel normal-sized ball nose stud.

this nosering is great because you don't see the stem part when you look up - my daughter was always asking what that was in my nose. Nice and small but still pretty.
